Greater things

Greater Things was one of those songs that felt like it had been in my heart for a long time before we ever wrote it. Chris Bivens and I initially sat down in 2017 and I remember being in an upstairs room at Bayside laboring over these verses and chorus for hours, but the bridge coming out in its entirety in about 45 seconds, like God had hidden it in our spirits all along. (Fun fact: We ended up completely rewriting the verses and chorus around the bridge.) All that to say, this song has ministered to me so much over the last 5 years. At first I struggled to feel comfortable singing the phrase, “Greater things are coming,” for fear of it not being true.  After all, sometimes we don’t see the healing we hope for, not every marriage ends in happiness, not every situation is redeemed… I remember talking with my wife one day about the song and her saying, “Well it’s really about Heaven, isn’t it?” I’ll never forget the revelation of that moment. Of course we can claim the truth of this song with confidence because our faith is not in temporal things, but in the One who holds eternity. Greater Things are coming! Our prayer is that hopes and dreams that God has placed in people’s hearts would be remembered and realized through this song. He’s not done yet!
